The Heart of Sunflower Roots Inc.
The Sunflower Project, a program of Sunflower Roots Inc., brings teens and seniors together in supervised, hands-on community service that supports vulnerable populations and local nonprofit partners. Through music, shared reading, bake sales, pen-pal exchanges, small fundraising efforts, and volunteer service for animal shelters, orphan homes in Ukraine, and neighborhood initiatives, participants address real community needs with compassion and creativity.
Through intergenerational service learning, the project strengthens community connections, builds local capacity, and fosters lasting positive change rooted in care, dignity, and shared responsibility.
The Sunflower Project cultivates empathy, leadership, and belonging by bringing teens and seniors together in meaningful service. Through intergenerational collaboration, lived experience becomes mentorship, and youthful energy becomes action — strengthening community connections, building local capacity, and fostering sustainable, positive change rooted in dignity, care, and shared responsibility.
Signature Service Activities:
• Handmade cards for rehabilitation centers and hospitals
• Music outreach visits to seniors and care communities
• Intergenerational pen-pal exchanges
• Youth-led bake sales and micro-fundraisers
• Volunteer support for local animal shelters
• Ongoing support for orphan homes in Ukraine
• Community drives (blankets, coats, hygiene kits, essential supplies)
Together, participants do more than volunteer — they build bridges between generations and create visible impact where it is needed most.
