Who We Are

Sunflower Roots is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated solely to rebuilding the future of Ukraine.

We focus on:
• Direct aid with no red tape
• Support for teens aging out of orphanages
• Personal, cross-border sponsorships
• Long-term care for the caregivers and communities left behind
At Sunflower Roots, we grow hope—one child, one story at a time.
Our Story
Sunflower Roots was born out of love - a grassroots movement started in California by people who couldn't stay silent. We work with private Ukrainian homes and communities, not institutions, to rebuild the most vital pieces of life for orphaned and displaced children.

Since 2014, we’ve supported orphaned and displaced children in the Kirovohradska and other war-affected regions of Ukraine, providing life essentials, educational tools, and emotional care in partnership with local orphanages, teachers, and caregivers.
When war broke out in 2022, our mission expanded beyond borders. We helped evacuate children to Germany, Latvia, and Poland, offering safety, advocacy, and trauma support. In Latvia, we focused on teens aged 17–18, launching a sponsorship program to guide them into adulthood—with some continuing their education and rebuilding their lives in the United States.

The war has left thousands of children without homes, classrooms, or stability. We work directly with families and caregivers - no bureaucracy, no delay - just people helping people.
